Corporate social responsibility

By acting as a responsible business, and in line with the general perception of fairness and reasonableness, Infratek aims to make a positive contribution to society. We will not act in a way, or offer products or services that carry a risk of engaging in unethical behaviour, violations of human or labour rights, corruption or damage to the environment.

We regard our own operations and supply chain to be the core area in our social responsibility. Our work within the area of social responsibility includes how we relate to our surrounding environment, ethical trade and Code of Conduct for employees.

Environment
The Group’s environmental policy aims to ensure that development of the business, products and services is based on principles of sustainable development. The policy also entails the principle that Infratek shall give its customers the option to choose more environmentally friendly solutions where good alternatives exist. Furthermore, as a Group and as individuals, we shall make targeted efforts to develop and utilise working methods and solutions that help protect the environment.

Infratek encourages and facilitates co-workers to take responsibility for the environment and environmental issues, particularly in relation to waste management, energy use and the handling of chemicals. Within waste management, we have agreements with Norsk Gjenvinning AS in Norway and Stena Recycling in Sweden, which ensures that waste generated by our operations is removed and treated in the most environmentally responsible way.

Infratek has introduced obligatory electronic environmental training for all Group employees in order to improve our know-how and awareness of environmental issues. New Infratek employees will also be given this training.

In 2012, Infratek entered into a guarantee of origin agreement with Bergen Energi, covering the annual power consumption at the Group’s Oslo headquarters.

Service vehicles and emissions
As a service provider in the construction, operation and securing of critical infrastructure, Infratek has a large fleet of vehicles that are used in our daily work. Efforts have been made in 2012 to use the fleet of vehicles more effectively. Minimising our vehicles’ impact on the environment is also a priority area. Infratek therefore plans to use modern vehicles with low carbon emission levels, and aims to only use service vehicles that are no more than five years old. Infratek’s fuel consumption was reduced by 18 percent from 2011 to 2012, which is partly responsible for the 1,300 tonnes fall in carbon emissions from the fleet of vehicles.

Another priority area is the statistics on damage. Damage in Norway was down 6 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, but Sweden saw a massive 36 percent reduction.

Ethical trade
Infratek’s plan of action for ethical trade is part of the Group’s procurement strategy and purchasing guidelines. The plan is aimed at improving the quality of purchases and ensuring that the purchasing process is sustainable and resource-effective. The ethical requirements and how these requirements are to be followed up are described in the plan. In addition to the need for expertise and resources, the importance of communication, dialogue and cooperation with suppliers, specialist environments and other relevant parties is also detailed.

In relation to procurement, Infratek sets ethical standards for its suppliers, who undertake to practise their business in a manner that does not contravene any internationally recognised principles or guidelines relating to human and labour rights, the environment and corruption. Ensuring that their own manufacturers and sub-contractors do not violate the aforementioned principles is also one of the suppliers’ obligations. Infratek has established procedures for following up sub-contractors in this area. These procedures aim to ensure that suppliers comply with the obligations that Infratek has towards its customers and partners. Infratek also demands that investment purchases are of a high quality with regard to the environment.

Internal Code of Conduct
In our organisation, each employee’s effort is essential. All employees should be familiar with our Code of Conduct and what this entails for them. To this end, all new employees must follow the principle to read and familiarise themselves with the contents of Infratek’s Code of Conduct upon taking up their post.

The Infratek Code of Conduct is applicable to all employees, employee representatives and directors. The guidelines govern the conduct and actions in connection with business operations and in interactions with customers, partners and employees. The guidelines are considered to be a minimum requirement. All employees must comply with external laws and regulations, industry guidelines on ethics and internal regulations that are applicable to Infratek.
